Review & Swatches: Pat McGrath Lust 004 Lipsticks in Flesh 2 and Venom 2

I initially thought I wouldn't too be too interested in Pat McGrath products mostly because they're too editorial for me, but I was super happy when she released the Lust 004 Single Lipsticks in some gorgeous shades. Don't get me wrong - I love her makeup style and looks, but they always seemed more runway than everyday. The shades I ended up getting are Flesh 2 and Venom 2 and they're both gorgeous. The Pat McGrath single lipsticks contain 1.5 grams / 0.05 ounces of product and retail for $25.

The Pat McGrath Lust 004 Lipstick in Flesh 2 is a dark brown based nude with some warm rosy tones to it. On my light-medium (MAC NC35, Tarte Rainforest Of The Sea Foundation in Light-Medium Honey, L'oreal and Maybelline Natural Beige) skin tone, this is an amazing nude color and looks so flattering.

Compared to Flesh 2, MAC Cosmetics Lipstick in Whirl is darker and Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in 1993 is more brown. Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Chai is more rosy, but all three choices might look pretty similar depending on what your undertones are.

The Pat McGrath Lust 004 Lipstick in Venom 2 is a dark brown red with a bit of purple to it. On my lips, the browny brick tones show up more but when swatched on my arms, it does look more purple.

The closest dupe for Venom 2 would be the Burberry Lip Velvet Lipstick in Oxblood in color and texture. The Bite Beauty Lipstick in Nori is a close color match, but it has a cream finish while Venom 2 is matte. The Maybelline Lipstick in Raging Raisin is also close, but it's more muted in tone and is also a bit lighter.

The formula for both lipsticks are exactly the same in that they're fantastic. They're super pigmented, creamy, and long lasting. The finish of the Lust 004 lipsticks are matte, but they feel pretty comfortable and last so long without any touch ups. I barely even saw anything transfer onto my cups and it still looked great after eating a greasy McDonalds meal. When first applied, these lipsticks do feel nice but they do start to get dryer and dryer as the day go by without any touch ups. The final dryness level is pretty similar to how dry liquid lipsticks feel about an hour in on me though.

The texture is thicker than other matte lipsticks I've tried but it works. Even though it's thick, the lipstick glides over my lips so easily and doesn't emphasize dry spots. If you're more used to thinner textures like the Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution lipsticks, these might feel too thick.

The packaging would be the only thing I'm disappointed about though. It is simple and easy to use, but I feel like it feels cheap for a brand that is on the more expensive side. The product itself is great and so I'm also glad that they didn't go crazy with packaging since it would've just added to the price.

Final thoughts: I really love these lipsticks and I'm kind of sad that they're limited edition. While the texture is on the thicker end, both lipsticks applied like a dream. They're super pigmented, creamy, and long lasting. If you can, I would highly suggest getting at least one while they're available. Both colors are also so perfect for my current collection. I can also see myself wearing either color for any occasion.

Did you get these lipsticks? How do you feel about high end lipsticks?
